The Barge Showgrounds Events Centre situated on State Highway 14, Maunu, Whangarei (a few minutes drive from Whangarei CPO) is a modern multi-purpose function centre designed to be flexible, with a dining capacity for up to 200 people. The building, which is fully air-conditioned, features a large function room that can be split by foldaway doors to form three smaller rooms, a small cafe, a fully functional, well equipped kitchen with servery, and a separate events administration facility for users of the grounds. The building has been designed to cater for a wide variety of events from small committee meetings, to large conferences, seminars, weddings and social events.

The fully equipped kitchen is a caterer's dream and gives easy access to the function rooms. Hirers of the facility may bring in their own caterer or alternatively the Society will assist with the recommendation of a caterer.

The Events Centre

The interior of the Events Centre is tastefully decorated in soft rural tones in keeping with the rural surroundings. The chairs are upholstered in three different colours, which enhance the ambience created by the drapes, carpets and colour decor of the walls.

Various styles of room settings can be easily created with the rectangular and half round tables available, eg board room, theatre, conference seminar/classroom styles to name but a few.

The Events Centre is in an idyllic, park-like location. With a 3 metre wide deck on three sides of the building, it lends itself beautifully to indoor/outdoor functions. The overhanging roof gives all day protection from all weather conditions. Outdoor wooden tables and chairs are available for use on the deck. The park-like surroundings provide an ideal background for photographs, or alternatively should adverse weather conditions prevail, the the interior decor lends itself equally well to excellent photography conditions.
